SPARQ’s birthtown and HQ, Gothenburg, is taking a leading role in electrification of marinas through the go:LEIF project – and we couldn’t be more proud to join in the conversation.

First, a mindboggling stat : Leisure boats in Sweden and Norway emit over 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually from fossil fuel use. A serious issue which is now finally taken seriously – we need the transition to fully electrified marinas, now!

Visitors at the recent ‘Floating Electric Boat Show’ described to us the main challenges facing this transition :

  1. There’s a lack of incentives to invest in electric-powered boats
  2. Charging infrastructure is mostly limited to larger ports, making exploration and overall access challenging for private boat owners
  3. Many still see electric boating as “expensive” and “complicated,” which slows adoption
  4. Fast-charging demand is rising, creating pressure on power delivery capacity to smaller harbours

At Sparq, together with Siemens eMobility, we want to accelerate the electrification of marinas. Our modular and flexible BESS systems with integrated charging make it easier to optimize electricity use for the harbours – cost-effectively and completely safe. Charge the battery at night and use the power during the day – simple and smartly.
